Our goal is to give every student in our area a chance to meet Jesus in a personal way. Our board constantly strives to make this happen through fundraising, planning, and management.
In April 1947, Rev. Neal Jantz, a home missionary with the American Sunday School Union, transferred from Louistown, Montana to West Plains, Missouri. That fall he held the first Hammond Mill Bible Camp in the former Civilian Conservation Corps. Camp (CCC Camp). The seven campers memorized a specific number of Bible verses as their "fee" to attend.
Local Boy Scouts had already been using the camp and with Rev Jantz volunteering to oversee the scheduling, additional organizations soon filled the summer and fall. Girl Scouts, 4-H clubs, the Pioneer Saddle Club, Church of God, Christian Church, Church of the Brethren, and several families using it annually for summer vacations, are just a few.
Over time four separate Hammond Mill Bible Camp sessions, broken up by age, were scheduled to handle the increasing numbers of campers.
In the 70's, with his health failing, Rev Jantz established the Hammond Mill Bible Camp Board and transitioned the Bible camp operations to it. The nine elected board members remain dedicated to the mission.
The board meets the 2nd Thursday of each month. You are welcome to attend a board meeting as a guest, but please contact the board at email@example.com prior to your visit so arrangements can be made.
